What is a Yoni Egg?

So what is a Yoni Egg anyway? Let’s break this down briefly:

Simply, put a Yoni Egg, also known as a “Jade Egg” or “Love Egg” are a beautiful semiprecious stone carved into an egg shape and polished to be worn inside the vagina.

The word “Yoni” is a Sanskrit word for the female genitalia that means “sacred space.” Its symbol has been worshiped in Eastern cultures since ancient times for bestowing life, creativity, and love. Here on the West side of the world, we use the word “yoni” to bring appreciation and acknowledgment – so often lacking in Western culture – to the creative power this magical part of the female body holds.

What are the benefits of using a Yoni Egg?

There are so many great benefits to using Yoni Eggs! Personally, I have used my Yoni Eggs for emotional balance, kegel exercises and to increase sexual pleasure. Here are a few more great benefits of using Yoni Eggs on a regular basis:

  • Emotional balance – helps to remove trauma
  • Strengthens your pelvic floor muscles and tones your vaginal wall
  • Increases libido
  • Enhance sexual pleasure
  • Increases vaginal lubrication
  • Detoxifies your uterus
  • Reduces cramping during your menstrual cycle
  • Spiritual enlightenment
  • Helps with fertility
  • Helps with after birth recovery

What are the best types of Yoni Eggs?

If you are just starting out with Yoni Eggs, either a Nephrite Jade or Rose Quartz would be the best choice. Green Jade is the most common Jade. It calms the nervous system and channels passion in constructive ways. It can also be used to harmonize dysfunctional relationships. Rose Quartz is the ultimate love stone! It has a high energy, but its vibe is also calming and soothing. If you need more love, want to be more loving, or want to bring more love into a relationship-this is the stone for you.

The type of Yoni Egg is typically picked for a specific need, such as sexual trauma,  to attract love, etc.  You can also pick your Yoni Egg if you would like to align a certain chakra, or it can be based on your zodiac sign. For me, it depends on the mood I am in. Or if I have a particular health issue that I am currently working on! Currently, I have been into my Carnelian Yoni Egg, which is all about stimulating fertility, decreasing menstrual symptoms and bringing forward your best self.

There are endless Yoni Egg stones out there for you to choose from, and it is best that you pick out your Yoni Egg yourself. I believe that choosing a Yoni Egg is a very personal thing and every woman intuitively knows what is best for her.

What sizes do Yoni Eggs come in?

Yoni Eggs are typically available in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large. If you are a beginner, you want to start with the large or medium Yoni Egg size and work your way down to the small. This is because a larger egg is easier to feel on the inside so you can make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. As your vagina becomes “tighter” you can start to move down in size. The smaller your Yoni Egg is, the more muscle control you will need to have down there in order to properly use it.

The sizes typically measure as followed:

Large 35x50mm

Medium 30x43mm

Small 25x35mm

When I got my very first Yoni Egg, I was told to get the largest size egg. Naturally, I was taken aback and felt a little slighted.

“Are you trying to say I have a big vagina?”

But as I learned more, I realize that is not the case. You can have the tiny vagina and still need a large egg if you are not used to doing kegels! The more you do, the tighter you will feel down there and then you can move down to the next size.

I’m proud to say, after a year I have finally made it to the size small. Winning 🙂

How do you use a Yoni Egg?

To begin using your Yoni Egg, simply insert it gently into your vagina. You can accomplish this by laying down, or squatting – whichever makes you feel the most comfortable. If needed, you can apply a lubricate of your choice to the vaginal opening to help it go in easier. Yoni Eggs are not recommended for use if you are on your menstrual cycle, experiencing any type of vaginal infection or if you are pregnant.

The first practice with your egg is to simply wear it inside your yoni for a period of time. When you place the Yoni Egg into your vaginal canal, you cause the stone to rest on the pelvic floor muscles. Your vagina will play with the egg and the crystal can start to do its healing work.

I prefer to use my Yoni Egg overnight while I am asleep and will alternate it throughout the week – one night on, one night off.

Do I need a string for my Yoni Egg?

In most cases, Yoni Eggs come with pre-drilled holes so you can add a string if needed. Having a string can come in handy and help with easy removal of your egg. Plus, you can stimulate the egg more with a string. You can also play “yoni tug of war” get more exercises out of the egg and increase your results. If you are a seasoned user, you will not need the string at all as you can force the egg by squeezing the right muscles.

How do I take care of my Yoni Egg?

Yoni Eggs are very easy to care for, and it is important that you always keep your Yoni Egg clean and in a dry space. You can wash your Yoni Egg with a mild soap or your favorite feminine wash, then just let it air dry. It is good practice to keep your egg in a small non-plastic bag similar to the ones used for menstrual cups. Some women prefer to place it on a Yoni Egg stand. Either way, just make sure it can breathe preferably not in an enclosed space, like your medicine cabinet. Let the Yoni Egg be free!

If you are using a string with your Yoni Egg, make sure you keep that clean as well. Silicone strings can be reused for a long period of time. Cotton strings can be reused for a couple week, but then you should consider replacing it. Dental floss is commonly used as a Yoni Egg string, but it is NOT reusable and should be tossed out after each use.

Where can I buy a Yoni Egg?

Because the art of using Yoni Eggs has increased tremendously over the past few years, you can find them in many places. Online, farmers markets and specialty shops are all good places to find a Yoni Egg. Personally, I like to see and connect with an egg before I purchase one. I also prefer to have a good connection with the person who is selling it – it is all about following that good energy! A couple of my favorite places to purchase Yoni Eggs are, and
