Does my insurance cover Doula services?
When should I hire a Doula?
You can hire a Doula from the moment you are trying to conceive. You can also hire a Doula if you have experienced a loss - this is a no cost service with me.
The sooner you hire a Doula, the better! Even if you are only looking for a birth Doula, or Postpartum Doula - the sooner we work with you the more prepared you will be. We are able to assist you better and cover a lot more early on. Doulas can be a valuable resource in many areas of becoming a parent - from fertility to even adoption. There is literally a type of Doula for everyone and every situation.
If you are in need of a combination of services, let me know! We can work out a custom Doula package just for you :-)
Here are the types of Doula Services I currently offer:
Prenatal: Covers everything up until your birth. Prenatal fitness, pain management techniques, birth positions, maternal rights, nutrition guides, and more. Click here more details.
Birth and Labor: Full support during your labor and birth. A labor and birth doula will be there to support the mother throughout labor and can help her have a more positive and empowering birth experience. Click here for more details.
Postpartum: A postpartum doula provides evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother–baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care. A postpartum doula is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby. Click here for more details.
Pregnancy and Infant Loss: A pregnancy and infant loss Doula offers pregnancy, birth, and postpartum doula services to families who face the loss of a baby anywhere from conception through 12 months old. PAIL Doulas can assist a family with any aspect of losing a child. This includes help during miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, fatal diagnosis, or infant death from any cause. This also includes loss of legal custody of your child. I provide unconditional and non-judgmental support to all of the families that we serve. Click here for more details.
Virtual Doula Support: A virtual doula can offer online support and valuable resources to guide you during pregnancy and postpartum period. My virtual Doula package includes weekly sessions and access to my birth and postpartum e-courses. Click here for more details.
Lactation Support: Breastfeeding is not easy, and some new moms simply want time dedicated just to breastfeeding! This also includes helpful tips to increase milk supply. If you are a new mom who would like assistance with lactation, click here for more details.
Newborn Care: This is an extended postpartum service available to current postpartum clients only who have completed their first stage of postpartum care with me. Contact me directly for more details.
Vaginal Steaming/Sitz Soak: Vaginal steaming and Sitz Baths are used by midwives or doulas for postpartum care right after a woman has a baby to assist with healing. You can also steam to help with fertility, reduce fibroids and regulate your menstrual cycle after baby. Click here for more details.
What is NOT included in doula support?
Doulas are not medical professionals, and the following tasks are not performed by doulas:
- They do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring
- They do not give medical advice or diagnose conditions
- They do not make decisions for the client (medical or otherwise)
- They do not pressure the birthing person into certain choices just because that’s what they prefer
- They do not take over the role of the partner
- They do not catch the baby
- They do not change shifts (although some doulas may call in their back-up after 12-24 hours)
